Pixels to physical size

Print size calculator

Enter an image’s pixel dimensions and a planned pixels-per-inch value to calculate its physical print width and height. The same image can produce many print sizes because PPI is a chosen output density.

Image file

Use the image’s actual pixel dimensions. PPI describes how densely those pixels are placed in the planned print.

Formula

What the calculator does

Each side in inches equals pixels divided by pixels per inch. Centimeters equal inches multiplied by exactly 2.54. Pixel dimensions describe the image file; the printer’s dots-per-inch capability is a separate device specification.

Keep the result honest

  • Use the image’s actual pixel dimensions, not a screen preview size.
  • Ask the print provider for its preferred effective PPI, bleed, and file setup.
  • Resampling or enlarging a file does not create missing image detail.
